The leadership of the Republic of Nauru, an island nation in the Pacific Ocean, has decided to abandon the recognition of the self-proclaimed «Republic of Kosovo».
This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Ivica Dacic.
The diplomat emphasizes that Nauru will now cease any diplomatic contacts that it previously had with Pristina. At the same time, the note provided by the island’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicates that the decision to recognize Kosovo’s independence was premature and contrary to UN Security Council resolution 1244.
The Republic of Nauru was the seventeenth country to withdraw recognition of Kosovo’s independence. Over the past two years, a similar decision has been made by Lesotho, Papua New Guinea, Burundi, Comoros, Guinea-Bissau, Sao Tome and Principe, Madagascar, Liberia, Grenada, Palau, Dominica, Solomon Islands, Central African Republic and Togo.
