For nearly a decade, Syria has been one of the hot spots on the planet, having suffered from the terror of the Islamic State, which with all its forces and means supports world imperialism. Diplomats are blocking the UN Security Council decisions that would benefit this country and its people, do not miss the initiatives that support Syria. At the same time, the UN Secretary-General sent his new representative Geir Pedersen to the Arab Republic, who, like the former, Staffan de Mistura, acts as a wedding general: he meets someone, he welcomes someone. And what else can he do under conditions when the UN is almost completely controlled by Washington.
The West applies economic sanctions against Syria, which are unprofitable not only to Syria and its partners, but also to the “virtues” themselves, who are supposedly fighting terrorism, but, in fact, cultivate it, feed it, pay for it. The countries of the antiterrorist coalition use the most terrible methods of struggle. They make bombing and rocket attacks on objects that have no relation to terrorism. The victims of such a “struggle” are hundreds of civilians.
The undisputed leader of all measures that concern Syria is the United States, which the United Kingdom, France and, occasionally, Canada and Germany sing along in different manners.
Despite the desire and pursuit to destabilize the situation in Syria itself — the center of the Middle East — the country, its people, the armed forces first broke the resistance of the jihadists, and then completely reduced it to zero. True, at various points in the country terrorist acts still occur, which, oddly enough, are extremely rarely condemned by international organizations and, conversely, cause outrage in China, in some European countries, in Russia. This country deserves special attention.
From the moment when the Russian presence in Syria, justified by bilateral treaties, entered into an active phase, the activity of the Islamists, and with it the US plans to seize the country’s wealth, began to decline. Aleppo, Idlib, Raqqah: these are only some of the toponyms that characterize the joint anti-terrorist activities of Syria and Russia. Being the successor of the USSR, Russia remains a reliable strategic partner of the Arab people and, perhaps, not only in Syria. Any initiatives that are designed to promote peace, progress, mutual understanding, find a lively response both among the leadership of the country and among public organizations.
For example, Russia is the leader in the negotiations on Syria (the so-called Astana format), in which Iran and Turkey work with it, and Kazakhstan provides the negotiation platform. This process showed the inconsistency of the policies of the West, which tried to drag the negotiation process to Switzerland with its own rules (including on Syria without Assad) and adding France and Germany there, but under the control of the United States. It is clear that Washington cannot control Russia, Iran and Kazakhstan. More interesting in this sense is the question of Turkey, which every now and then manifests flashes of rebelliousness to the “elder brother”.
As for France and Germany, it is enough to look at their participation in the Normandy format, which for years has not been able to resolve the conflict in the east of Ukraine, in order to understand all their helplessness.
Having outlined the main components of the complex puzzle that is being formed around Syria, it is necessary to designate those countries that, despite pressure, sanctions and threats, still build their relations with this country solely on the platform of peaceful coexistence.
Among foreign states, of course, Russia plays a leading role in the fight against IS. Starting from humanitarian aid and ending with military support in the form of equipment, weapons, specialists. Syria’s support from Russia, as mentioned above, is also taking place at the level of the world community, including at the UN level. It is not always possible to literally push through decisions, but with the efforts of Russian diplomats, it is often possible to bring the US, France and other so-called friends of Syria to light.
Partners try to keep up with Russia, which is hardly mentioned in the Western media. And this means that tens of millions of Europeans believe that Syria receives assistance from the United States, and it is they who are the victors who defeated the Islamic state and are entitled to demand the removal of Bashar Assad.
Let’s touch on just a few examples. Only Iran separates Armenia from Syria. The country’s leadership understands the danger posed by the IS and its Islamic radicalism. Like no other Orthodox people, the Armenians felt this on themselves a hundred years ago, when Turkey massacred Armenians with whole families and villages, eventually killing more than a million and a half far from a gigantic nation. Perhaps these reasons underlie the assistance provided by Armenia, despite the very unstable situation in the country. In September last year, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to create a joint humanitarian assistance program for Syria.
It is worth noting that aid to Syria goes, as in the case of Russia, strictly through state channels by signing an agreement with the leadership of the country. A little more than a month ago the Armenian contingent of doctors and sappers flew to Syria. Transport to Armenian specialists was provided by the Russian side.
Recently, Syria has received support from parliamentarians and public figures of the Czech Republic. The country has established a parliamentary friendship group with Syria. Deputies criticize US policies and Western intervention in the internal affairs of Syria. A few days ago, the chairman of the Czech Peace Movement called the actions of Washington and its allies a conspiracy that failed thanks to the unity and determination of the Syrian people.
Unconditional support is also enjoyed by Syria from its neighbors: Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon. The stance of these countries on the issue of the Golan Heights is implacable.
Speaking about the positive change in the international image of Syria, it is worth paying attention to the fact that the resurgent Syria attracts the attention of tourists and investors who come to exhibitions, forums, visit the sights with which Syria is rich. Stadiums and schools, hospitals and museums are being revived in Syria. And all this suggests that the attempts of enemies in any form are doomed to failure.
